How a game of tombola runs

  1. Hand out the cards

Each card holds 15 numbers, five per row. Print a set at printable tombola cards.

  2. Call until the ambo

Press Spin and read each number. The first player to mark two numbers in the same row calls ambo.

  3. Play on for terno, quaterna and cinquina

Keep drawing without clearing the board, through terno (three), quaterna (four) and cinquina, the full row.

  4. Finish with tombola

The game ends when someone crosses off all 15 numbers on one card. “Start over” puts the 90 numbers back.

Tombola’s five levels

Italian tombola is not won in one shot like a line-and-full-house bingo game: it has five levels, from ambo to tombola, all from the same draw. That is why games run longer, and everyone stays tuned in from the first number to the last.

It is the classic Christmas Eve and New Year’s game across Italy, and it is becoming better known elsewhere too. For a board built for a TV, use the tombola board; for paper cards, printable tombola cards.

Your tombola game with players far away

Tombingo plays Italian tombola too: pick the format when you create your event. Share the link, each player gets their cards and watches them mark themselves on their phone, and the console checks every ambo, terno and tombola a player calls.

Free for up to 20 cards per event. See pricing if you need more cards or the Tombingo home page.

Frequently asked questions

How many numbers are on a tombola card?

Fifteen, in three rows of nine squares: five numbers and four blanks per row.

What gets called in tombola?

Ambo, terno, quaterna and cinquina as a row fills in, and tombola with the full card.

Does this draw repeat a number?

No. Each number from 1 to 90 comes out once per game, and the board shows every one already drawn.

Can I play with cards on my phone?

Yes, in a Tombingo tombola event. Each player sees their cards mark themselves, free for up to 20 cards.

How is it different from 90-ball bingo?

They share the same 1 to 90 draw, but tombola has five levels (ambo to tombola) instead of bingo’s three (one line, two lines, full house).

Is it played for money?

No. It is a game for families and group events. Tombingo does not handle bets or money.
